| HARLINGEN COUNTRY CLUB MEETS IN PARKING LOT TO LEARN ABOUT NEW CLUBHOUSE About three hundred club members met in the parking lot on Sunday, June 7th in the evening to learn about the plans for the new Harlingen Country Club facility and enjoy a member picnic. President Joe Neely opened the meeting with brief comments about the overall project for the new club house and swimming pool. In addition, he talked about the role of the board of directors and thanked several members who had preformed outstanding service to Harlingen Country Club and the club house project. Director Hal Gilchrist, who is the chair for the House committee, explained the new club house and talked about the size, composition, function and design for the project. The club house will be approximately 22,000 square feet and designed to fit in with the local architecture. It will have facilities to serve the membership and the community. Banquet facilities are available for groups up to three hundred. He emphasized that this will be the best club house south of San Antonio and will serve the membership and the community well into the distant future. Also, he talked about the fact that this facility is designed to be expanded with minimum difficulty in the future. Groundbreaking should be some time in the late Summer to early Fall with completion around 12 months later. Mr. Scott Lieberenz, the finance officer presented the finance plan and informed the membership how we would finance the project and the current status of the loan process. The four banks that are considering the loans are Compass Bank, First Community Bank, IBC, and Lone Star Bank. The funds required for the building will be around $6.5 million dollars which will include the building finished and furnished, the pool and landscaping. Scott also talked about the need for new members and the ability to obtain new membership from the local area. He was followed by Mr. Reagan Florence, who discussed the Renaissance Program and its place in the project funding. All presenters participated in a question and answer period where any questions on the proposed project were answered. In general, the membership was excited about the new project and wants to get started as soon as possible. Afterward, the membership enjoyed a great picnic dinner presented by the staff of Harlingen Country Club. Dinner music was presented by Rewind. |
